Chase After a Cure Guerrilla Cuisine Recap
Title: Guerrilla Cuisine Benefiting Chase After a Cure Recap 11/10/13
On Sunday November 10th, Chase After a Cure embarked in a culinary adventure like no other. After months of planning, searching for chefs, and scouting locations, the Chase After a Cure Guerrilla Cuisine Dinner came together beautifully. Chef Brannon Florie created a spectacular menu which was served at the perfect Guerrilla Cuisine location, The Striped Pig Distillery. The night was a laid back fun filled evening. We were led on this amazing culinary adventure by the founder of Guerrilla Cuisine, Jimi Hat. This is not Jimi’s first rodeo by any means. Jimi has lead over 120 Guerrilla Cuisines. Guerrilla Cuisines are an underground dining experience in which the location, menu, decor, musicians, and artist are revealed to the guest the day of the event. All aspects remain a secret to guests to create a true “underground” experience. Photos Courtesy of English Struth : Guerrilla Cuisine Photos
Striped Pig Distillery was the absolute perfect venue for this dinner. The dining area was created beside the beautiful silver and copper stills where moonshine, vodka, or rum is created.
“The Striped Pig Distillery is Charleston’s first distillery since Prohibition. At Striped Pig, we bottle the spirit of Charleston by using the freshest, local ingredients to make our spirits. Each batch is handcrafted in small-batches to ensure the highest quality. We offer free tours and tastings so you can see where your spirit is made and discover for yourself “What’s in Your Spirit?””
The Chef for the evening, Chef Brannon Florie, hails from local restaurants The Rarebit and The Granary. Brannon has many years of culinary experience, a passion for cooking and supporting the local community. Brannon executed a marvelous five-course fall themed menu which included everything from sea to land. His attention to detail, creativity, and dedication to only the best local ingredients made for a culinary delight. Chef Florie teamed up with his fellow chef from The Rarebit as well as Executive Chef Joe Wolfson of The Granary to create this menu:
Chef Florie and Chef Wolfson opened the evening with a delicious and beautiful charcuterie board: duck prosciutto, lamb merguez, pork chorizo, chicken liver mousse, pork rillettes, pickled veggies, mustard, and grilled veggies
First Course:
Baby Kale, Radish greens, white anchovy vinaigrette, radish, soft poached egg and topped off with cornbread dust
Second Course:
Pumpkin Squash Bisque, spiced pepita, -brown butter
Third Course:
Shrimp and stone crab, Charleston gold rice, okra, peppers, peas
Fourth Course:
Pork cheeks, turnip puree, pickled oyster mushrooms, ginger emulsion
Fifth Course:
Pear and Cranberry Tart
The food was incredible and the service was 5 star. A special thank you goes out to the chefs and volunteers for dishing up and serving food. Thank you for taking time out of your lives to help create such a special evening for our guests.
The evening came together perfectly thanks to many different people and generous donors. The ambiance was especially unique with lighting provided by IES Productions. They did an amazing job (as you can see in the photos) turning a distillery into an elegant dining experience. http://www.iesproductions.com/
Musicians Tom Swift & his Electric Cohorts set the mood with a smooth and soothing sound. https://www.facebook.com/electriccohorts
Artist Scott Parsons displayed his original and astonishingly well done paintings that created a buzz and conversation that our guests thoroughly enjoyed. http://www.armartstudio.com/artwork.html
Chase After a Cure’s largest donor and partner, Event DRS, provided table linens, glassware, china, silver, tables, and chairs. It is with their generous support that we are able to direct cost of those rentals to our research and not to an event cost. For that, we are forever grateful. www.eventdrs.com
Once again, thank you most of all to our host, Striped Pig Distillery for hosting this amazing affair. We encourage each and every one of you to drop by Striped Pig and see this amazing distillery and taste their spirits for yourself.
